During those agitation days

Unity and Oddity in the loss of 9 tribal lives   The nine people who had attained "martyrdom” in the so called anti-tribal triple bill protest had brought a rare sense of unity among the Manipur tribal. However the oddity with it is that different interest groups have no qualms in trying to capitalize out of this “martyrdom”. The martyrs were a part of the uncontrollable frenzied crowd who responded to the call of some political aware individuals to give vent to an accumulated anger and frustration with tribal MLAs considered responsible for keeping tribal land at peril. Some of the martyrs here may not have fully known the content and intent of the controversial triple bill and could have simply joined the mass protest with the conviction that the state government has done injustice to the hill people. They may not have come out of their homes to confront the security forces ready to sacrifice their lives for separate administration or most of the demands put forth by the a

The story of kolkang and saijangstill linger in the heart. Joumuol vangkhuo, you just wane along in liquid form In the midst of that, lies a sibling of mine Lo! The one-sided call. Do answer me   August(lhajing ) o month of darkness Darkness prevails in joumuol villa. The sun, and all plants around hang their head down Tears pours down the face alike the rain   The beauty of the village, its sweet sweetness Gone deep inside within the soil Cannot spread the love like rug unlike before Amid the mud, the villagers calling each other by name   The sad day when u cannot find mom and dad face in the crowd The water in my face, thought it was raindrops No, it’s a tear of sorrow longing for dear ones Stop weeping over and move forward.   A place like Zion, city of god There will no more be like the wretched earth Where I will no more be bothered by landslide A hope to meet u all there   Lhajing lhajingo month of darkness The nations mourn

Rape is everything that we understand of it - it is about establishing/enforcing power/dominance over a/any woman/man/child, emerging from a repressed, patriarchal   society that saw drastic changes economically and culturally, changes that didn't seep through/made available to all levels. India has been bearing the burden of complex class and caste distinctions which have remained big reasons for division. Add to this the gender divide and a troublesome Independence from the British, who left behind deep rooted skin racism. And then there is marital rape. The right to give consent to their body is theirs, not somebody else. What is there with jeans, mindset that brought about, So that they realise consent belongs to   women and rights to how she dress and how she speaks belongs to her

The movie as we bring to mind: was one of the most successful films which upswing from the town. I was in Class 1 during the reign of “ Henu neingailou hitam ”. I remember being left out when my sisters went for the movie. I can also vividly put up the memories of the team while shooting for a dance scene near the ST.Mary’s Gammang(forest, as we use to refer) . Number of girls were made to dance and we were fully excited to witness the shooting of the films.

My experience with nature

1.      Born in a town, my experience with nature is comparatively less compare with friend who spent their childhood in the interior village life. The first experience I can recall is back in the 1998-99 when an ethnic conflict took place in my district between two communities which one was them was my tribe. We move to a place where it was safe for my community to be, it was a centre for the villagers who come to sell their goods and take them to the town. I could barely remember what was happening, I get to recall this from my sisters who were too scare to tell my parents that I was surround by a snake. They told me that I did not even notice the snake around my leg. In the Manipuri’s folktale, they said that the very day. The snakes are too excited as they see the rains and comes out in plenty number on this day. This whole story of mine was retold by my sister. 2.      This experience was back in the 2000’s. The whole village was inspired by a family who planted banana in

No, we weren’t taught.

Don’t dress in revealing clothing. Don’t go out at night. Cities are not safe, continue your studies at home. This usual advice has been given to us a lot of time to us. Right? Or you might have come across this advice given to your female friend. The discussion that follows after any rape incident is scarcely on the victims personal how, why. When the news of rape flooded, “Numei chavei hija” (a slut) and more statement on how the society blame the victim.  Thanks to the matriarchal system of the Khasis, garo and jantia tribes of Meghalaya. The whole north-eastern states of India has been perceived as unique part of India where women rule the society. Women in this reason are free and are more liberated in compare with the rest of the women in the country. However, suppression of women can be patently visible. Most women fail to recognise the bias attitude embedded in their traditional customary norms and culture and hence they refuse to recognise themselves as prejudices lot

When Football is BAE

There was once a time during my school days when we used to bunk class for many reasons one of which was to watch a local football tournament SK tournament which is one of the biggest tournament in our district. Churachandpur in Manipur hometown of well-known sportsperson like Mary Kom, the 5 time world Champion Boxer and a bronze medallist in India and the world. Leaving aside other game, the love of football is at peak. The largest gathering in the district can be seen during a final match of any big tournament going up to ***8*8 Well, if I am to tell you why we love the game like every other football fans I don’t have a reason. Its in our blood. You can witness old men over in their 80s in the stand (No, we don’t have a stand, to be more detailed we don’t have a stadium not even a mini stadium,  we sit on the grass and even on trees if you can get the drift of the game from there and even on electric post and towers) But that does not stop us from following the game. And the
